Hand-editing my Grooves

Post by jm_lange »

Dear all, i'm trying to use the Groove functionality :)

I'm currently trying to use your Jamstix 4, to see if i'll buy it.
With Studio one. Win10.

One important feature for me is to be able to build a song with my grooves.
I use the free version for now. I have followed the tutorial (see below) but the song created doesn't correspond to my groove.

I'm really interested in Jamstix and i would really like to be able to use my grooves to build songs.

Is there any thing i should know to make it works ?
Maybe the free version doesn't allow this feature ?

Any tips ?

Hand-editing Your Grooves
When you want to completely hand-edit a groove pattern, follow these steps:

click GROOVE in the main toolbar
click 'Clear Song' in the song sheet menu
load Silent for style and drummer
preview-loop a bar with the PREVIEW button in the bar editor
start editing the groove in the bar editor as desired
stop the preview
click Save Groove As Style in the bar editor menu and give it a descriptive name
open the song builder and build your song using your saved style

but the song created doesn't correspond to my groove.
How so? In what way is the song not adhering to what you hand edited?

No, in fact when i create a song based on my user recorded style, the song patterns are empty execpted some giving a total different rythme. (not a rytme at all in fact..).

Can you outline the exact steps you are using to create your song with the saved style? I just tested this function and it is working properly for me.

I have made a video of my process :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/by4h7lmzlao6ivc/Test.mp4?dl=0

Basically :
- Groove tab : Silent + silent drummer
- I set a drum kit
- I click preview and do my rythme
- I set 1 bar and no repetition
- I save the groove as style

Maybe there's something i'm doing wrong ?

Sorry for the slow reply because Imgur now sucks and won't let me upload the gif I made showing you how to do this. Load a Kit> Load Machine as a Drummer> Click Preview> Hand edit your Groove >stop Preview > Save Groove As Style. Now use the Song Builder> Choose your saved Groove as Style> Load Machine as Drummer> Create Song.

Hello, with free version, i don't have the same as you.

I create a groove, i do a style, but when the song is done the beat is not inside.
Did all as the same as you.

Will buy the standard version, maybe it's a free version bug/limitation.
I keep you informed.

I have a question : how to delete an user style ?

I didn't think that was a limitation of the free version. It has been a long time since I've used the free version.

User styles are located by default in Windows in the C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data\styles\@ User Styles folder. Just navigate to that folder with Explorer and delete them.

Maybe it would be a good idea to include this in the free version, because it is a feature a lot of people could be wanting to use. So they are convinced it works and buy the full version. In the free one it could be limited, for example for a couple of bars in the final song or something like that.

Hi Knopf,

Of course it would be Ralph's decision what to do regarding this, I personally feel that the free version is already incredibly generous with all of the options that are fully functional.

I would agree that a clearer delineation of which options are fully functional or not in the free version would be helpful.
