A few questions before I buy Jamstix 4

Hey everyone,

I just have a few things I wanted to ask you all before I go ahead and buy the plug-in

[b:0d04e62f59]1.[/b:0d04e62f59] I am hoping to use Jamstix as a drummer that will play my own MIDI patterns in his/her own style, am I right in saying this can be done via the 'MIDI Import' function?

I hope to play in the parts myself on my Electronic Drum Kit, and then import that pattern into Jamstix, which would hopefully play it in a tighter/natural/personal style, if that makes any sense..

Would Jamstix recognise and preserve all the small ghost notes in my pattern or would I have to import the pattern into Jamstix fully Quantized and then edit from there?

[b:0d04e62f59]2.[/b:0d04e62f59] Does Jamstix work well on Mac? I am using Logic Pro X (Mojave) and I am unable to use the demo version to test it out first, but it says the full version is in Beta. Does it work well enough to use regularly?

I would really appreciate any help with this, as my drumming is the only thing holding me back from releasing my music at the minute.

I don’t know about the Mac OS question but for Question #1, JS can take an imported groove and use it as a starting point. It will play it as is or add variations and accents based on the brain elements selected.

I can't answer the Mac question either but I would add to jas_lan's reply that it would be best to record your midi into your DAW from your kit and break it into sections corresponding to your song structure in Jamstix. Then use the Midi Import function for each individual Song Part to import your midi. I would strongly suggest downloading the free OSX version first to see if it works on your system.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply.

I downloaded the Beta Mac version and have it working in Logic Pro now, but am I right in saying I can't import a groove in the beta version?
I cant seem to find it.

Im also having trouble getting Jamstix to play through Addictive Drums 2, but I'll post that elsewhere on the forum in the hope that some other Mac users might be able to help.

I want to explore Jamstix' brain function more than anything, and I'm really interested in its own unique way of playing drum patterns.

When I play my MIDI drums in they never sound how I want them to, and I've been trying to achieve this by different Quantize features etc, and have concluded that the only way to do it really is by playing them in myself and moving each drum hit around manually by hand but this is really time consuming!

I was hoping to use Jamstix so that I could import my drum patterns (fully Quantized) to be played by one of Jamstix' drummers, so it would breathe some life into them, while still keeping the actual pattern I played myself.

Logic's Drummer can't do this unfortunately, which is a pity..

I don’t know if the import MIDI option works in the beta version (I would think why not), but you can watch this video to try the steps (it for JS 3 though)

Hi tommy_q,

The midi import function does work in the Free version. You need to choose the Import style in the @Special Styles category in the Song Builder or the Style label next to the Brain drop down menu.

Thanks everyone, I got it working now in that I have JS playing my MIDI groove!

I just cant figure out how to get Jamstix to play through Addictive Drums, is the routing process different for each DAW?

I can't seem to find much information on how to do this in Logic Pro X.

Would really appreciate any help on it!

The only thing I can tell you is to choose the AD2 output mapping in the Kit window in Jamstix. I can't, unfortunately, help you out regarding configuring routing in Logic.
