Jamstix 4.4.3 Beta 3 (macOS) is now available

Post by Dewdman42 »

So its working sorta well for me by using the stable 1.1.1 version of AudioGridder.

no multi-out audio supported in that version of audiogridder. Also, trying to use Jamstix as midi out doesn't work very well with audiogridder, the midi timing is jittering around, Audiogridder needs to be improved to support better midi out from plugins it seems.

I am using it with parallels on the same machine. Parallels is configured to use a SCALED display and this is important because Jamstix doesn't do well with HiDPI scaled windows resolutions. Its not great sharpness, but its good enough to get the job done and the sound is perfecto...

I think VePro is still the better solution, not free. however... I am having problems with VePro also. I setup a song..hit play, it plays the 4 clicks and the first bar of beats and then stops producing audio, even though I can see Jamstix's transport moving and putting things on the grid as it plays through...somehow no sound comes through after bar 2. Strange...

Just picked up[b:7f941c1b82] DDMF MetaPlugin[/b:7f941c1b82], and so far this is the best way to host the Windows version of Jamstix on a VePro server. It handles sync properly. The GUI is being handled properly. it provides mutli-out audio. Done. This is the one that does everything.

The others I tried that don't completely work right as of now are:

Unify - doesn't have multi-out audio

Kushview Element - doesn't sync right

PlogueBidule - Doesn't handle PDC at all.

Patchworks - just plain doesn't work, crashes and weird problems, avoid it in VePro.

It looks like Jamstix will also run directly inside VePro without issue, and everything works, but if you want to connect Jamstix to another drum plugin such as AddictiveDrums2, etc..then you need one of the above sub hosters.

I realize this is not even close to a free solution, but it totally works. VePro saves the day. But you need a spare PC for it, and you have to buy VePro as well as DDMF MetaPlugin to get this all working. But hey if you want your jamstix on Mac...there it is. Its rocking in DP right now, multi-outs, drum parts on seperate tracks.. totally workable.

I hope AudioGridder will get there eventually. But I had a lot of problems with that one. I tried under Wine also, no go...problematic GUI because of OpenGL I think. Tried it in a windows VM and it kind of works, but sync problems as mentioned above. If they ever get that working 100% that could be a free alternative..

And I was able to get VePro working under parallels on the same Mac... works like a charm even better then using a remote PC due to lower latency and no network hop.

VePro license is not free, but anyway it works, for anyone interested...

Haven't been here for a LONG time. Is the Mac version just dead now? Has Ralph offically walked away from all attempts to create a stable mac solution?

Real shame - I loved this product. Gave me some unique drum lines I could never have imagined or programmed.

EDIT - Wow! It looks like Ralph hasn't posted since Dec 2021!? He used to be so good at supporting Jamstix. Is it just abandonware now?

I would not call it officially dead yet. But we haven’t heard from ralph in a while so who knows what is going on. But with apple silicon becoming a thing now I personally kind of am expecting him to give up on mac or it will probably take years for it.

In my opinion the best option right now is using vepro on a pc to host jamstix or you can setup parallels with windows and vepro inside that running jamstix. I have used this and it works quite well honestly. For the foreseeable future that is the best way to run jamstix on a Mac. It does cost money for both parallels and window10 and vepro, so it may not be worth it to you. I already had all three products so it worked out for me. Win10 licenses can be obtained for cheap now and you could try Oracle’s free vm, might be fast enough but parallels is way faster. Vepro licenses are not cheap so wait for sale.

Alternative to vepro would be to use something like network midi and various free sound piping programs to get midi and audio in and out of windows vm, but only the vepro approach is sample accurate

I waited for a lo-o-ong time and I hoooped that I would finally be able to use Jamstix on my iMac 2019 with that great system version 10.14.6 Mojave.

An M2 is on its way as well.

Anyway, the writing has been on the wall for a lo-o-ong time and it's time to finally move on to greener grass.

I've just deleted everything Rayzoon, including a number of add-ons, from my computer.

Logic Pro and EZDrummer 3 will go a lo-o-ong way to covering my drumming needs.

Hasta la vista, Rayzoon! You were happy to take my money, but…

Such a shame.

As others have said, I wish Ray all the best if he's not well. And I also hope that he or a colleague will post something on this community website or the main Jamstix page to say what's going on.

In this age of instant communication it seems to me to be wholly unreasonable to not let ANYBODY know what's going on, for so many years.

Steve.

I am in process of building a new room and plan to put all of my digital devices on the Dante network. What is appealing is you can add additional computers (Mac/PC) and converters very easily with an inexpensive license.

Someone previously in the post mentioned to just run a separate PC just for Jamstix and this with Dante may be the ticket.

My current setup is a 2018 maxed out Mac Mini which is serving me well. I agree I think any new development for the new Mac M1 will be a long time coming. I read even Avid is years out from being compatible.

Anyway just a thought. I have used a lot of the other drum software out there (Superior being my next fave) but they all have one thing in common. Menu diving to find grooves! I hate this and the AI is where Jamstix shines and it is so random cool accidents happen.
