Hi - wondering if anyone knew off-hand which of the acoustic kick drums had more prominent beater "hit click" sounds?
Thanks!
Acoustic kicks with prominent beater clicks?
Acoustic kicks with prominent beater clicks?
can be done with any kit, just use a strong compressor with a slow attack
Acoustic kicks with prominent beater clicks?
Ok, thanks, I just assumed some kicks had a more prominent beater click than others (which would be brought out easier and more prominently after compression, transient manipulation, etc).Ian_C wrote:can be done with any kit, just use a strong compressor with a slow attack
Are you saying that's not the case, or are you just giving good general advice?
Thx -

i just found this link.
http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/drum-compression-get-your-attack-and-release-times-correct--audio-12848
there is an audio example that demos what happens when messing with the comp attack and the click sound.
other factors come into play of course like where the mic is in relation to the beater. many people mic the kick on the outside as well as on the inside. so the inside mic will have more beater sound than the outside.
not sure how ralph recorded his samples. i should probably know but i tend to use BFD and SSD which have both mic placements.

I guess I am wondering if any of Ralph's kicks were mic'd so there was more of a beater click to work with than others. I'm working with compression and transient manipulation in the meantime, just looking for any kicks that might make it easier to bring out the beater click sound.
Thanks again!

hi sorry, was just a general advice, totally great link there though. Try the Jamstix MetalPAk (if you haven't) some very strong Kits with Klick Kicks in that collection

Interesting, thx. I could see splitting out the transient then slapping it on the front end of another one.Ian_C wrote:hi sorry, was just a general advice, totally great link there though. Try the Jamstix MetalPAk (if you haven't) some very strong Kits with Klick Kicks in that collection
Does Rayzoon do timed trials?

yeah you could get really technical and user a high pass filter to just keep the click and a low pass filter to keep the tail of the other one.alexis wrote:Interesting, thx. And Melda MTransient allows one to capture just the transient, another way of doing it.Ian_C wrote:...

But I didn't see any demo options? So I guess this is not for me, as I don't want to purchase just to see if those techniques work. If they did, great, but if not, I wouldn't want a bunch of metal drums I wouldn't have bought otherwise.
