best practice for using the mixer

I'm wondering how people take advantage of the mixer in JS. Before I got JS, I used Addictive Drums. In that program, you can route each kit piece to it's own close mic, Overhead mics, and room mics, and you can blend them for each piece. I like that flexibilty, and to me it seems very logical (I can picture the mics in the real world).

I know I could send the midi output to AD, but I actually prefer the sounds from JS, so I'd rather not do that.

So my question is, what routing do you guys use? I'm thinking this:
1 - kick
2 - snare
3 - HH
4 - tom 1
5 - tom 2
6 - tom 3
7 - cymbals
8 - ambient (i.e. room)

This leaves me wondering what in the world to do with all the "extras". Cowbells, shakers, etc.

And, what about when you have percussion instruments in addition to the normal kit?

I just use routing preset 8 in the drop down menu with multi-channel vsti routing in Reaper. I haven't encountered a situation yet that required anything more than that. I like the JS sounds also but do prefer to use SD2 cymbals usually.

Thanks, I never even noticed that pre-set list before. I'll play around with that setup.

Do you refer to jamstix or to reaper? My mixer folder in jamstix is empty!

Do you refer to jamstix or to reaper? My mixer folder in jamstix is empty!

In the JS kit window, pull down the arrow in the upper left corner. I never noticed that list there myself until a_zimuth pointed it out to me.

I just thought it's about the upper left arrow in the mixer window.
And I've forgotten also, that I've chosen the output routing literally years ago. 8)
