Power knob changes throughout song

Post by Jalan »

Hi, all. I glanced through the manual and didn't see this. I'm wondering how to program the power knob to be at different settings throughout the song. Specifically, I want to set it higher in the choruses so the brain will tell the power hand to go to ride the crash as opposed to staying on the hats.

I think I know how to adjust the power hand settings, but when I tried to adjust the main Power Knob (which is what tells the power hand what to do, correct?), it seemed to be an overall level for the entire song and not adjustable between different sections.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing/doing wrong -- anyone wanna show me the light? :-) Thanks in advance.

You can control the power level via VST automation or MIDI automation (right-click knob to assign) from the host.

Alternatively, you can just lower the 'Threshold' for the power hand in your choruses.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not able try this out at the moment, but if I read you correctly, this is something that needs to be done in the host (not JS), correct?

If so, have you considered the option of having this controlled in JS -- like when you highlight a section of the song, the power knob (or maybe the power hand) applies only to that section? I'm still adjusting to JS, but it seems unintuitive to have to go to the host to get these two JS parameters to see/talk to each other.

And, as always, forgive me if I'm missing something -- I'm still a bit of a midiot :? Thanks!

VST and MIDI automation are very common tools so we thought it best to keep things simple and streamlined. Most people end up with many envelopes in their host tracks to control audio track voume, FX parameters etc. Having JS power level in the same area simplifies lining things up and keeping oversight.

i am sure what Ralph said to do is the best way.

first off i am a novice.

one thing i did recently was to create what i will call a "drone" track. a tone generator or something. i then inserted the AudioM8 plugin on that track and chose to mute the output.

i then automated the volume on that track. i could tweak the volume levels along with the Dynamic Knob. this seemed to work better for me than using something like a guitar, bass or a buss of many instruments and the AudioM8 plugin.

like say i want the drums to do a crescendo into a chorus or decrescendo into whatever, then i simply set the volume and let JS do its things.

OT Rant

man i love JS. i tell all of my friends who play and record about it.

i take it personally when they seem to not be paying the amount of attention this product deserves. punks.
