Help using MIDI loops

Post by chris »

After a long haitus I picked up jamstix again in the hope that the MIDI import functions had been fixed.

I loaded the following beat off the web:

http://www.mididrumfiles.com/files/BEAT4.mid

I then loaded jamstix into FLStudio and imported the beat as a part. Jam is set to NO INPUT - so in theory it should just take that beat and vary it slightly according to style.

I flicked through all the bars and they all appear to have loaded up. I try and play it and only the hi hat plays - occasionally I get a clap. All the other beats show up in the correct place on the bar editor bnut the first time i play the pattern they get a red cross through them and never trigger.

Sounds like the power knob is too low. If that isn't it, please move the mouse over one of the red crosses and read the reason for its suppression in the status line.

Also, the best way to use MIDI files with JS is to use the 'Import' style.

What do you mean ? Do you mean "Load" a style in the drummer brain instead of a particular drummer?

- load the 'Import' style
- click <click to load> and select your MIDI file
- load the desired drummer

This allows the A.I. to utilize the MIDI data as if it came from a built-in JS style and also gives you the option to combine it with style elements using the 'Add' function in the brain menu.
