Any experts offer consultation?

I'm brand new here, and looking to see if there's anyone, perhaps a Jamstix expert, who would be interested in some consultation for a beginner like myself? I'm new to Jamstix, that is -- but very competent with computers overall, with experience using various DAWS. So it's not like a complete and utter idiot. Just a normal idiot.

Given my work schedule with the way things are these days (working overtime from home) I don't have a ton of time that I can devote to diving into manuals, online videos, and general experimentation. I'm looking to get going with Jamstix fairly quickly, and gather some tips so I can get a workflow going quicker.

I found the best way to learn Jamstix was to use a genre of song I'm used to like say blues and make a 12 bar based song. Then lay down some bass and guitar over the pre-installed styles and drummers. Then go back and start editing the sections,in this case each set of 12 bars.

Or if doing an original song just try a basic song format like

2 or 4 bar intro then Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus/Middle break/Verse/Chorus and Chorus to end.

Yep, I've seen the quickstart. I have Jamstix installed, and working with my DAW.

I've created a couple song templates, picked a drummer, picked a kit, etc. I'm trying to create a very specific drum patter to match an existing song, so as I try to edit each groove, I'm struggling a bit to make that work. Some of the sections have no drum content at all, and other parts do have drum content.

Hi,

First thing you'll want to do if all of the sections are going to be independent and vary is in the Song Sheet, Song menu>Global Actions>Unlink All Parts. This way any of the changes you make to one section will not be automatically reflected in any linked sections. Make sure that all of your sections are the correct number of bars and repetitions to match the song you're trying to emulate.
Next for the sections that have no drums, in the Groove window where it shows the Style and Player next to the Brain menu, change the Style and Player to Silent. Silent is located in the @ Special Styles and @ Special Drummers categories respectively.
In the other sections that have drums, choose a Style and Player that is compatible with the song. You're not going to get a carbon copy of the song unless you are going to hand edit every part, which is what the Jamstix Classic style, in the @ Special Styles category, is intended for.

Hi Ferg,

I think I know right where you are in the process. When I first fired up Jamstix I was choosing a drummer and loading a style and I was very happy with the natural playing but I wanted simpler playing.

A great way to learn how to dial things back is to post a youtube of a drumming style you're after. Ralph or Azimuth here (or some lesser Jamstixers like myself) can immediately recommend how to achieve what you're after. When you see how they do it you'll see that there is much more to Jamstix than loading a drummer and style.

Ralph showed me how to use "Basic 4" style to achieve my goal
