Sorry if this was already answered but I couldn't find it searching around. I'm trying to output JS4 to the Tony Coleman VST. I have the midi note assignments for the Tony Coleman kit so I thought the best way to do this would be create a custom kit in JS4. I started with the Rock - Big Kit and have been going through and assigning midi output only and proper midi note triggers to the corresponding drum kit pieces in Tony Coleman. I'm deleting the pieces that aren't in the Coleman kit. But my confusion comes with the midi output mapping.

For example, I set the Crash 2 to trigger note 51 which is the 18" crash in Tony Coleman. But the Jamstix midi output map has note 51 mapping out to 86 (hi hat 25%). So what will actually happen? Should I create a blank midi output map to make sure the kit assignments don't get remapped? Or is this ignored when a kit piece is already set to midi output only?

Or should I be using a different method altogether?

Also, I understand when I would use the GM output map but what would the purpose be to use a Jamstix midi output map? Is that for expansions?

I'm not familiar with that VSTi but that doesn't matter. If it calls for Crash 2 to be assigned note 51, do that. Then as far as the Jamstix hi-hat, match each individual articulation to whatever the Tony Coleman kit calls for. Basically, match the Jamstix Midi Out Template kit to the VSTi you are driving with it. Don't forget to save the kit once you're done.

Thanks - I used your tip to start with the Midi Out Template and I noticed that also loads in the BasicXXXB mapping which I guess is just a dummy file. I had been using the Big Kit which loads in the Jamstix mapping and was causing my confusion as I thought the mapping would remap the assignments I was making in the Big Kit.

Unfortunately, I am out of commission right now so can't get any examples. However, I was able to get everything mapped and working so can tell you it sounds much like you would expect based on the Tony Coleman sound samples.

In regard to this topic. I too got a bit confused as to how how the midi output mapping works, as you can change it in the kit menu, the midi linkage editor or write out an output map in a text editor?

I don't really understand how these affect or cross relate to each other or where they are stored.
I know where the midi maps are but I don't really understand how they relate to the show keymap choice?

I have made an output map for Big Bang Universal Drums. In some places, it seems to have more articulations than Jamstix and in others less

Here is the output map I created based on the Big Bang Drums info.Having created a Jamstix midi output only kit, with the same amount of kit pieces. Is this correct or is there a better way to do it?
