JS4 in a Virtual machine

Post by e_del »

Hi everybody,
while anxiously waiting for JS4 OSX release (btw, any news about the beta test?), I wonder if, having 16 GB RAM on my machine, could be a temporary solution, mainly to get accustomed to the new features, running JS4 for windows in a stripped down install in a Virtual machine... running on the same MAC
1) What is the bare minimum RAM to use in the Virtual machine for JS4 to work decently?
2) Is there one preferred VM, amongst VirtualBox and VMware?
3) Would Win 10 be the best choice, or earlier version would perform better (mind that I wouldn't install any unnecessary module or driver...

What do you think?

I've never used a Mac so I can only speak from Windows VM experience but there should be no reason that I'm aware of that it shouldn't work.
If you're just looking to test out Jamstix I would think that 4 GB should be plenty for the VM. I would use Windows 7 personally but that is strictly a personal preference and Jamstix runs fine on my Surface 4 under Windows 10.
I also use VMware by choice. It has always worked flawlessly for me in Industrial environments.

One thing I've found in the past is that VM's audio driver interfaces are typically really bad and latency is a big problem if you are also working with real-time audio input/output. Might want to check that first.
