Basic question. If all settings in a jamstix song are saved when I save in my DAW, when would I use save song in Jamstix? Thanks.

i sometimes save versions of songs as i create them along the way.

i also use 3rd party samples to i may save a version that uses something like SSD4 or BFD3. might be easier to just change it but i usually create separate songs for each is i am temporarily undecided.

Saving the song in Jamstix can be useful. Occasionally, DAW project files can get corrupted. If you have to rebuild the project and saved the song in Jamstix, it would save you from having to rebuild the song. Also, if you use multiple DAWs, it would allow you to easily transfer the song. I like to save the song file in Jamstix as a backup just in case.

Also if you save your song with a chosen name then it ,and all of its auto-saved versions, are easily identifiable in the Revisions folder if needed. Otherwise you are going to be searching through A LOT of files named "My Song XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX...… " trying to determine which one you need based upon creation date and time. Not fun in an emergency.

Saving songs is also a way to transfer data from JS3 to JS4.

I find this very useful, since I have a number of unfinished songs that I started before I upgraded to JS4, and I want to complete them in JS4, rather than having to continue with JS3 for those songs while learning JS4 for new songs.

I also use the 'Save Song' feature. I also do this with other drum programs that I start a song in. As I use different computers, I find that having the drum program save the original files of the song being very useful in case I want to go back and redo/start over.

I also find that Studio One 3 does not save all the info or the exact state of Jamstix when I save the song in SO3.

So in my opinion, this shows that Jamstix is a great feature laden Program!!

I mean the 'Restore Point' is fantastic and something other drum programs don't have that I know of. I haven't seen that feature in EZD2 or AD2.

I keep all of my Song files in their own folders inside a folder for each DAW.

In each song folder I have sub folders. One is named "Plugins", where VSTi settings and Songs are kept.
Usually, I save to the system folder first and then "Save as" to the DAW song folder.

As noted, if I want to try a song in a different DAW, I simply copy the Song Folder to a different DAW Folder.
