Grooves & Grooves Weights - Have I understood this prope

Hi

I've been using Jamstix 2 for awhile now but I've still being trying to get my head around the concept of grooves and groove weights? Now I understand grooves in the traditional DAW concept of adjusted quantization that gives you a sense of “feel” to midi timing. I'm assuming that groove weight is not exactly the same thing…. Or is it? I understand that Jamstix groove weights emphasise particular beats but that is not the same as midi timing.

The reason for me clarifying this is I’m wondering if Jamstix is capable of applying my own groove feel to a part/bar/song. Is it possible for me to have say a guitar part converted to midi then have that midi file is loaded into Jamstix to replicate the feel/timing of the guitar part. So I should have a drum part that’s hopefully fairly close to the guitar timing. Is this at all possible?

Thanks

'Groove weights' in Jamstix do not affect the timing. Instead, it is a way to classify each 16th note of a bar as to its role in a specific rhythm. There is more info in this thread:

Sorry can I just clarify. What I proposed to do is therefore not possible in Jamstix....?

You can define your own specific timing feel only by altering the timing slider for each note in the bar editor.

i think you'll have to go the other way 'round: exporting Jamstix composition as midi data into your DAW, and apply your groove feel to this midi data

when i change the groove weights in JS 2.5, no matter if i select P,B,S (part, bar, song) switch, the groove weigth labels are changing only in the selected bar. is this a problem or do i miss something?

Use the S-P-B buttons on top of the bar editor, works for me. However, if you want to load a weight file for a whole song, use the song menu.
