Can\'t seem to get it to work

I'm trying to do what should be one of the simplest of tasks--import a midi file and elaborate. Ok I've followed the instructions to a T. Import style>load midi pattern>Save style preset & give it a name>click Wizard>select import as style>work with song builder. This one is a simple 3/4 clip but it's not playing anything like that. It's just coming out something like bumpbump ...boom...psssss........bump. I've tried this a few times and am frustrated but I know it's something I'm doing/or not. I really want this thing to work so I can be free of creating drum parts so I won't give up & go back to stringing clips together. I'm subhosting SD2 and that part seems to be doing fine.

Did you change the time sig in the host to 3/4?

Yes I did change the time sig in Reaper to 3/4. Today I'm starting over with JS (manual in hand) at the beginning. I've had it working before but it's been a while since I had time to experiment. I'm sure I've forgotten something basic. I'll get right back if I run into a snag. I played with it for two hours last night & maxed out my frustration tolerance.

Well hmmm. I'm trying to avoid saying this is the worst piece of crap I've had to deal with in a long time. Ain't no software engineer but I ain't no dummy either. Can't get the import to work except for a couple of hits and then it takes the "snap" right out of the clip and plays it kind of lame. I'm totally frustrated and think I'll go back to slicing & dicing. Sorry but I think yuh still have a way to go.

Sorry for the frustration! Please send me the MID file in question so I can look at what the problem might be.

Hey, I think there's a requirement for a bit of positivism here :D

I'm building up the nerve to post some of the [i:0a317bff60]outstanding[/i:0a317bff60] stuff that Jamstix has made possible for me. Not that I'm being big-headed, like

You're absolutly right Moon. When I was a kid I would just stomp on a toy & break it if I couldn't get it to work right away. Good thing I can't do that with software. I still haven't really mastered JS3 but have used it on some tracks & am having a ball with it. Thanks to Ralph & all for your patience! :) :D

I'm a Reaper user and the easiest way to use a Midi file whilst in Reaper using JS is to use Reaper's Media Explorer(A lot of people don't even know it is there in Reaper).

Go View/Media Explorer
Then navigate to your midi file and drag and drop it into the Reaper track with your JS on it.Make sure you have a kit loaded in JS and choose,"Midi Jam" and in JS options make sure Midi Play In Jam is enabled.

HTH :)

Thanks Sheppo_a I'll try that. I haven't had any more probs loading the clip into the song builder though. But in midi jam JS will use the midi clip on the track as a style and still adhere to the song structure in the song builder?
