Pro Tools Tips for Missing notes

A note to any PT users

I've had the missing notes (During Playback) problem for a while now and have made some progress to minimise this recurring

First off I have a Multicore PC (Quad 6600) which apparently upsets Pro Tools delicate Real Time engine when using Virtual Instruments
I recommend other Pro Tools users to only use 1 processor for RTAS Processing - this has produced an imediate improvement in stability. This workaround is well documentaed on the DUC forums.

Secondly I purchased Raxco's PerfectDisk as recommended in Sound on Sound. I defragged every partition of every Drive including System files offline. Again a major boost in stability. Norton Ghost the freshly defragged Operating system partition as well.

Lastly now that I'm down to using only 1 core of my Quad for RTAS processing - I took an online crash course in Overclocking my Motherboard and succeded very well in producing a 25% overclocked stable system - It took me a week though

The last option might not be everyones cup of tea but I'm glad I ventured into that new territory

I hope these tips will prove useful to other Pro Tools users who perhaps feel a little left out when it comes to Jamstix support

Ralph perhaps my findings will shed some light on why Jamstix is unstable on Multicore PCs running Pro Tools. I never had this prob at all with the same setup on my old Pentium 4.
Perhaps a dedicated Pro Tools option in the menu to use one thread or one core in a similar way to the BFD2 engine?

Hi Ralph

There's a check box in Preferences Engine "Use mixer in one Thread"

I think i'm probably confusing Cores and Threads but it must be there for a reason

That option only affects the operation of the BFD2 mixing engine. JS2/3 use one thread for audio processing and another for the interface as provided by the host (plus a third for sample loads). There is no dedicated multi-coring in JS2 itself because CPU loads created by JS are fairly low so it's better to let the host distribute processing across cores as it sees fit.
