The absolute LAST thing this plugin is about is what the picture of the kit inside the UI looks like! Who cares?! What kind of form over function mentality dictates such concern with this one element? As long as the effort being put into the looks of the kit is not delaying the release, which Ralph has clearly stated it is not, then so what if it's a bunch of square cells labeled Kick, Snare, etc.

Respectfully: Different things are important to different people. Just because you feel strongly one way about the GUI doesn't mean there aren't other valid points of view.

One could consider that the appearance of the GUI was important enough to Ralph and the developers to spend time and resources thinking about different designs, and then to implement them. When they present it on the forum, it doesn't seem inappropriate for forum members to honestly respond. To call someone rude because they say they don't like it seems a little off-base to me. This isn't someone's kid doing a school theater production, it's a product for sale.

Personally, if there were "a bunch of square cells labeled Kick, Snare, etc." I would go find a different VST. You feel differently, I understand, but I would think there are a lot of potential users who feel the GUI has value. No one is "wrong", per se, IMO.
Noted and understood. Only point I want to clarify is that I called the guy rude because he out and out called it "ugly." There's a huge difference between calling someone's hard work "ugly," and saying it the way you said it in your post. I would have never called him out as rude, just like I did not for the several other people who expressed their dislike, if they simply expressed their dislike in a constructive and diplomatic manner.

They have answered countless support questions before I even got to read them. They have been doing this without any compensation from us whatsoever, simply out of a desire to contribute to our Jamstix community. One way to express my personal appreciation and gratitude toward them is to ask anyone who may feel 'called out' and eager to fight back to take a breather and simply respect them for their tireless contributions, just as we here at Rayzoon respect all of your opinions, complaints or frustrations.

Thank you!
Kudos to a_zimuth and jas_lan. Thanks for all your help guys!

Not sure you saw this pic but could you tell me what is the wrong with the left side of this image that you'd rather have the right side?

Got the impression that "Turn off 3D kit" should be "Replace 3D kit with more real-estate for seeing more info in he window instead".

I might be wrong.

The left side looks like some exploded disneyland kit..I prefer the right side and can't think why I would want to move the kit around..just my preference..no biggie my friend..

Ralph, please put the screen real estate to good use. I emailed you a suggestion and posted it also in this thread. Didn't hear back from you.

Anyway, the virtual kit -- however nice to look at, and that's a matter of taste -- isn't helping me squat in my workflow. Jamstix could use some more overview and a better paradigm in handling bar and part editing. That real estate is giving it to you. Yet you restrict my view of the song to ten bars near the bortom left corner and gaude my eye with something I can just stare at without any practical use, taking up center stage. There's something not right with this picture.

Chris, thank you for your email. I haven't had a chance to really dig into it but will do so as soon as I can. A cursory review gave me the impression that you're hand-editing bars, which is not the workflow Jamstix is designed for. Most users work with song sheet and brain window to set what they want played in each part. Bars are not the center point for them. Some will put a few hand-placed notes in a few bars but it's not the main focus/work for most users.

Secondly, EZDrummer, Addictive Drums, Superior and so forth all feature large kit displays. Just as in those plugins, the virtual kit in JS4 is used for mixing, kit editing and visual correlation of what is being played. I fail to see how the kit takes any real-estate away as it is only shown in KIT and MIXER mode.

Hi Ralph,

no I am not hand editing bars. I do use parts and brain controls. But I find it cumbersome to transfer settings between parts or rearrange parts. I often wish I could see more of my song diuring editing and playback. Wouldn't it be cool to have an expanded bar view when "mousing over" a bar? Wouldn't it be nice to see groove, accents and fills at one glance without swithcing between each aspect? I'd love to insert a couple of bars in the middle somewhere by simply right clicking at the very spot and choose "Insert bars...". There are so many things which would lend themselves naturally to an expanded pars/bar view. They all need more real estate.

I don't mean to belittle the kit display. I guess you have to vie for "coolness of looks" to gain marketshare. But, honestly, this view does nothing to help me achieve my goal.

If you're telling me that in other views you are using this large screen area to make my job easier than it used to be in JS3, then I'll shut up. But until then, I am rooting for a real good GUI metaphor that makes my job intuitive and easy.

You see, I design user interfaces and am a stickler for it. Because, no matter how powerful your product is, it is only as good as far as people are using it.

Greetings, -- Chris.

I reckon your on the right track, the[u:4992226f49] drums[/u:4992226f49] take up a lot of what could be very useful space, I hardly ever have the [i:4992226f49]drum view[/i:4992226f49] on so for me personally I dunno why Ralph gave it so much importance..
