You would think that a project like a major revamp of JS3 would kind of follow a project plan with milestones and targets. At the moment we are completely in the dark when the new release is slated to appear. Is it still this spring? Or has it been pushed back to later this year? Will it even BE this year?
It appears to be in the alpha testing phase at the moment (i.e., internal beta test). Then there will be a public beta test, followed by the plublic release.
Ralph, please give us some idea where the project is standing at this moment.
Greetings, -- Chris.

Guys, we're in high-pressure beta cycle. I'm posting screens and video 'quick-&-dirty' so what you see can be from any number of internal test states. Take it all with a big grain of salt as to changes/adjustments.
JS4 will go public Beta within the next few months and DEFINITELY be released this year.
Here's a comparison shot of the JS4 3D kit with full textures and the old static JS3 kit. I hope this will assuage some of your concerns about it being 'cheap' and 'ugly', though there is of course no accounting for taste.

It's amazing to me how much emphasis people here are putting on what the picture of the drumkit looks like. The absolute LAST thing this plugin is about is what the picture of the kit inside the UI looks like! Who cares?! What kind of form over function mentality dictates such concern with this one element? As long as the effort being put into the looks of the kit is not delaying the release, which Ralph has clearly stated it is not, then so what if it's a bunch of square cells labeled Kick, Snare, etc.
And for people to refer to a developer's hard work as "ugly" is just insane to me. How incredibly rude.
Ralph, thanks for the update. I certainly do hope that the functionality and user-friendliness will be greatly enhanced in JS4 and that's what I'll be interested in learning more about. Your 3D drumkit looks fine. But even if it didn't, who cares.

Respectfully: Different things are important to different people. Just because you feel strongly one way about the GUI doesn't mean there aren't other valid points of view.
One could consider that the appearance of the GUI was important enough to Ralph and the developers to spend time and resources thinking about different designs, and then to implement them. When they present it on the forum, it doesn't seem inappropriate for forum members to honestly respond. To call someone rude because they say they don't like it seems a little off-base to me. This isn't someone's kid doing a school theater production, it's a product for sale.
Personally, if there were "a bunch of square cells labeled Kick, Snare, etc." I would go find a different VST. You feel differently, I understand, but I would think there are a lot of potential users who feel the GUI has value. No one is "wrong", per se, IMO.

But Ralph what about if I want to custom skin the 3d drum kit with pink unicorns and have it rotate at precisely 2.68 rpm for demonstration purposes for clients? You really don't care about MY needs do you?
Seriously people, get a grip.

That last screenshot looks very nice compared to the previous, blu-ish demo. I am assuming the blue one had no texture yet and this one does. It makes a lot of difference.
Also... +1 on the comment about how rude it is to call the drumkit "ugly". Its fine if one doesn't care for it as it is a matter of taste. But there are many polite ways to offer constructive criticism...

Before anyone takes offense at 'a_zimuth' or 'jas_lan' for calling out 'rudeness', I'd like to jump in on a personal note to emphasize that these two users have been [b:ec4005db90]true assets[/b:ec4005db90] to this forum for [b:ec4005db90]years[/b:ec4005db90]. They have answered countless support questions before I even got to read them. They have been doing this without any compensation from us whatsoever, simply out of a desire to contribute to our Jamstix community. One way to express my personal appreciation and gratitude toward them is to ask anyone who may feel 'called out' and eager to fight back to take a breather and simply respect them for their tireless contributions, just as we here at Rayzoon respect all of your opinions, complaints or frustrations.
Thank you!

Hey Ralph, thank you for the kind words, I appreciate them. Honestly, my comments were not directed at anyone in particular and I was just trying to point out how ridiculous it is to be forming concrete opinions regarding something which none of us have seen even close to the final version of.
Ralph (and his team) has never let us users down before regarding what we would like to see or need in Jamstix. I really have a hard time believing that will change anytime soon.
