Uncheck the 'Close Audio...' options in the AUDIO prefs of REAPER. Let me know if that doesn't fix it.
I was just having a similar problem, where I was both unable to use the preview circular arrow and I was also unable to preview styles from the style selection dialogue.

This setting in REAPER fixed both those problems.

Thanks :).

Ralph, after spending some time with this, I have issues with needing to change that setting in REAPER. I want REAPER to release my soundcard when I minimize it, but this setting prevents that.

I suppose that while I am programming in Jamstix, I can have this option unchecked and then when complete, I can go and check it again, so there is a workaround, but it is not ideal.

Is there any way you can get Jamstix to work like it used to, when we didn't have to uncheck that setting?

Thanks Ralph. I am no longer able to preview kits when looping a section in REAPER, so I am going to roll back to Version 3.5 for the time being so I can continue to work. Preview is critical for me.

Are there any special instructions for rolling back, or is it just a matter of running an older installer?

Thanks for all your hard work.

PS - While I have your ear, there is another annoyance with 3.6 in that each time I add a new section, the shuffle bar is at 100%. It happens consistently with each new section I add - New, not Copy and Paste. The first time it happened, I thought something was seriously wrong with my project and it took me a while to figure out what was going on...

Ralph, alternatively, if you have an early beta or hot fix version of 3.6 that corrects the issue I am having, I am open to helping to test it instead of rolling back.

Awaiting your response...

(sorry for the double post)

I'm still getting occasional glitches in Live (latest version).

It seems to be in live looping when it comes up to the loop point.
Jamstix gui is showing, glitches even with just the minimal bar count showing.

The glitch is momentary, but enough to stop audio and break a song flow, especially if doing live.

Did you try the PopupMode=1 setting? That should fix it.

I will try, but where is that setting? I don't see it in the Jamstix options. Can you please be specific?

Sure thing:

- open Documents\jamstix3\jamstix3.ini in NOTEPAD
- add this line below [GENERAL]

PopuMode=1

- save and close the file

You can now audit and preview in REAPER even if 'Close Audio Device...' options in REAPER are checked.

As far as style preview goes (and I want to make sure that we are clear that I am talking about the style preview dialog here where you select the 'preview' checkbox and audition song styles such as '6/8 Rock' and 'Clock Day', NOT the bar editor preview circular arrow button), it doesn't make a difference whether or not I have that option set. I added it to both the ini file in the main program directory (which actually has nothing else in it other than [General]) and to the ini file in my vst directory (which has many settings configured).

Whether that setting is there or not, this is the behaviour I am seeing (my song has a time change in it, maybe this is related):

- Before the time change, I can get it to preview, however the previewed beat plays in full time on the first selection BUT plays in half time for every other selection.
- After the time change, I cannot get it to preview. It is just silent as I make selections. Sometimes, the first beat plays but then nothing else.

The above is the behaviour regardless of the setting of 'Close Audio Device...'.

I'm also a developer by trade, Ralph, so I know how difficult this stuff can be. I hope you can work out what is happening here.

Edit: on a further test I have noticed that the half time style preview problem happens on a brand new project, so hopefully you can reproduce this easily.
