Logic X and Jamstix comparisons... Hummmm...

Is going 64-bit a major code change? Logic X won't run 32-bit plugs...if it takes a longer time to get an OS X version out, 32-bit is going to have a limited appeal.

Logic X runs AU only, so even a 64-bit VST misses the mark.

Then again, the install base for Logic Pro 9 and below is probably still quite high.

It's not really about the Logic X base, though. It's that the writing is on the wall - as people transition to 64-bit, 32-bit will become a thing of the past. As it is, if you're running a 64-bit DAW, then you'll need a wrapper just to run the plugin, which is additional code adding overhead to a project.

Less of an issue if the release is sooner than later, but some of us have been waiting years for this. That's why I was asking about how hard it is to make the transition.

Anyway...don't want to be a downer or anything. I just want to see native Jamstix as soon as possible.

Yeah, I agree. Apple is known for precipitating change, and they've done it again with Logic Pro X (64-bit AU only).

I've been using Drummer every day for the past week in my songwriting workflow, and you know, it's actually quite nice. It has some great features that Jamstix doesn't yet have that would improve the workflow.

For example, I like that the drum parts are displayed in the track view as a waveform. You can lengthen/shorten parts, copy/paste, swap, right in the track view while seeing your entire project. It also works brilliantly with the Arrangement mode, where if you want to swap the bridge from your song with another verse, it takes two seconds to do, and the drums also adjust to the new structure.

With Jamstix, you would have to go into the plugin window to make the changes, and it's just not as intuitive as having the structure laid out in the track view.

Anyway, that coupled with the tight integration right into the DAW make it a great experience so far.

I'm not trying to be negative, because I really love Jamstix. But I've been waiting for years, and now there is a native and viable replacement. It all comes down to the trade off between the complexity and high level of control in Jamstix versus the simplicity and tight integration in Drummer.
