Third Stone from the Sun

Post by voodoo32 »

I am attempting to cover Third Stone from the Sun by Hendrix. I cannot figure out how to get the first 16 measures jazz groove (it comes back later again in the song). I cannot get the ride pattern for the life of me. Does anyone know a drummer model and/or groove that would get me there? Any help would be appreciated!

The reason you're likely having trouble is because Mitch Mitchell is playing in Double Time in the jazzy parts. Set the tempo in your DAW to about 230bpm for those parts and choose one of the Jazz & Swing styles. I'd try Brush Player or Charlie as a starting point. If you have the AI Pak try Peter.

That makes so much sense! I know the tempo is like 115-120 and for the life of me I could not play the bass line! I kept upping the tempo. Lol. Thanks man! Will definitely be trying this out ASAP!

Azimuth: please, don’t die. And, if you mean to some day, please do prepare a clone.

Edit: clone!
