Can Jamstix do this?

Post by TheSystem (Archive) »

Let's say that I have a song I created in Jamstix but want to hear how another drummer might play the song.

I do not want to recompose anything. Like if I was to hand a couple drummers a song on sheet paper and ask drummer 1 to play it, then drummer 2, etc.. the hits are exactly the same since the hits are down on paper.

The big variable is the drummer. One drummer might have a more nuanced touch and do things different timing etc... and maybe the other drummer hits a little harder...

In either case, the groove, accents and fills pretty much stay the same with the exception of what the individual brings to the table stylistically.

Is this at all possible?

Thanks
Brian

What I would do in that case Brian is to use "Save Song As" in the Song drop down menu and name each version with the drummers name in it. In other words let one drummer play through your arrangement>"Save Song As">Load next Player>"Save Song As"....... then pick and choose the best parts or performance. Just loading a different player won't work because it will trigger a full recomposition. Locking all parts will prevent any changes.

do i keep all parts Locked? or do i have to Unlock them? i think if i unlock the parts, loading the next player will force re-composition?

thanks for your help

Hi Brian,
Sorry for the slow reply, long night at work. I don't know if your song is already fully composed or not. Depending on that I would go about it 2 different ways.

1) Already composed (the long way): In the Groove window go through each individual Bar and choose Bar>Edit>Lock All Events. This will lock the core groove so a new drummer can only add to it and create new Accents and Fills.

2) Not composed: Create a new Song part, In the Groove window of the new part go through each individual Bar and choose Bar>Edit>Lock All Events. Then Bar>Extract Part which will create a new part with the Groove events locked. Repeat as needed.

Then use the Save Song As to archive the various performances.

thanks. the song is composed.

too bad there is no Global Lock All Events (All, Groove, Accent, Fill) like the Lock/Unlock All parts. that would make this a breeze.

thanks for your help.

Duly noted and put on the list for the next update.
