Can I add a 2nd Ride to a kit?

Post by TheSystem (Archive) »

I am playing around with SM Drums. It has 2 rides and I want to add a 2nd ride to my modded MIDI Output Template kit.

When I right click on the Drums screen, I do not see an option to add another. I do see options to add other pieces to the kit like a 2nd snare.

Thanks
Brian

There is only support for one ride in JS4 at this time.

Hi Brian,
You could add another Crash to the kit and change the sound to a different Ride cymbal model. You won't have the different articulations of a Ride but maybe it'll help.

The only issue doing what I suggested is that the Brain won't "view" the added cymbal as a Ride cymbal thus won't compose for the added cymbal as a Ride cymbal. You may have to hand edit to get satisfactory results.

Hello: not being myself a drummer and having very little knowledge about drumming, may I ask how and when a drummer would want to play with two rides? The only situation I can guess is by doing some kind of pattern or arrangement using both hands or maybe to have two very different tones.

Most drummers I've seen have different Ride cymbals just for tonal variations.

Not an easy way but...

You can have 2 tracks with different kits (thus different Ride) and go from one track to the other via automation.

[code:1:b7bfb1012e]
==== ==== ==== Kit 1
== == Kit 2
[/code:1:b7bfb1012e]

Something like that.
