Jamstix 3.6.0 Final Release Candidate Available

Post by L_bro »

Hi,
Is or has anything been done in the Beta 3.6 version of the program to address the VST performance? When I use Jamstix 3.5 to drive Superior Drummer I get an average VST Performance meter reading of about 40% How ever it spikes every now and then, pegging the max meter pretty hard. This produces audible pops and clicks.

If there were changes made to try and improve this situation I will load up the beta and give it a shot.

Thanks for your comments and help,
LB

i've some GUI improvements for the upcoming jamstix 3.6, main advantage is it's pixel perfect, alignment is corrected and i've used same colors and buttons/knobs across the whole gui.
speeds up workflow and usability ;)
Zeph_yrus, any chance of sharing your UI skin with us? :)

thanks guys! the GUI isn't ready yet, there are a few things to do though it's fully functional. I'm in contact with Ralph to improve it so, when its done you will get it.

Finally! i have big performance issues with 3.6rc1, the load is pretty high and causes dropouts mainly when the gui window is in focus. Many projects don't work anymore due to overload...
It happens with big projects and alot of disk I/O, jamstix produces usage of 40%cpu, former load was 6-8%.

EDIT: This happens in 96khz sample rate.

96khz will stress your system.
I recently got a new audio interface - my TC Konnekt Live finally melted & my backup Presonus Firebox was limiting now, so I scored well with new Steinberg/Yamaha UR44 - 6 inputs - and tested a few online gigs at different rates.

My Ableton Live project for online gigs is pretty loaded with Jamstix, Trilian, Bidule, Ozone and other VST's and my machine is old but running a Q9650 with 8gb ram.

I *could* do a gig at 96khz, but would get audio stuttering artifacts at random times under heavy load, and also at 88khz.
Now I run at 48 khz and all is sweet. Pity they don't have a ~60khz sample rate which is apparently the sweet spot without the marketing hype of sample rate wars.

ps: Look forward to the new UI. Very nice and clean. UI is hard, as I've found from my own app development.

well yeah, but 3.5 doing well in 96khz, 3.6 sucks up. that's what i want to tell here in the 3.6 pre release forum, I should have made it clearer :)

Ok i think i sorted it out. Due to the new design of js3.6 and its plugin server that runs as a seperated process you can run into thread priority issues. For example if you run reaper with an asio interface at low latency and high sample rate it has a higher thread priority than the aps of js. Therefor jamstix can stuck up and go mad if the DAW window with all the stuff going on there is in focus. Setting the thread of the aps to high in task manager fixes it. So this problem should be fixed for rc2, eh? ;)

Interesting. I didn't see those issues at 96kHz here on the test machines but I'll look into the thread priority logic.

Wow -- that is some fine troubleshooting!

Since the introduction of the JS3 plugin server, I, too, have noticed playback problems (e.g. distorted, crackly playback; CPU load spikes; file I/O spikes) with the Jamstix VSTi hosted in Sonar X3. I had just chalked it up to some limitation of the ASIO4ALL + Realtek HD audio driver tandem on my laptop.
