Can I run Jamstix 3 on Sonar X1 with Windows 7-64 bit?

Sorry if this has already been covered...I did a search and found several similar threads, but they all seemed to end with the poster showing all the code errors and then no real resolution, so that's why I'm posting this.

I have Sonar X1(c) Producer running on this system:

• Windows 7 64-bit
• AMD Phenom(TM) X4 840T quad-core processor • 6GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [3 DIMMs] from 4GB
• 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive from 500GB
• 500GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
• 512MB ATI Radeon HD 5450 [DVI, HDMI, VGA adapter]
Focusrite Saffire Pro24 DSP
Axiom 61 2nd generation
Behringer Truth 2031A monitors
Sonar X1c Producer

I'd love to use Jamstix, but I am not the most tech savvy guy, just a dumb blonde singer....so is there a way to seamlessly get latest version of Jamstix to run on my system?

Also, a side question, if it works, can I get Jamstix to run Abbey Road drums and Studio Drummer that came with the new Komplete 8 that I just got?

It works fine in Sonar X1c Producer x64 for me.

There is a demo which you should try though, that's the only way you're going to know for sure if it will work for you without a problem.

When you insert Jamstix in Sonar, be sure to check 'Enable MIDI Output' in the dialog box that comes up. In Jamstix, on the mixer page, select the button that says 'MIDI only'; now any kit you load in JS will have the proper mapping, but not load any samples.

Insert Kontakt, and open up Studio Drummer. You can select the mapping you want for it, (GM, BFD, Superior Drummer, etc). In Jamstix, load a kit that has the same mapping; there are kits for BFD, iMap, and so on. On Kontakt's Midi track, select Jamstix as the input. You should be good to go. I'm not sure if the Abbey Road kits have the multiple mappings available or not; I'll have to check when I get back to my music computer.

When you've got everything set up the way you want, you may want to save the whole thing as a track template. Then the next time you want Jamstix controlling Kontakt, you can load it all with one mouse click.

That would be problematic since Sonar has a bug that will result in MIDI events from the output of a VSTi to bleed into other tracks you are recording at the time. In addition, if you have more than one VSTi that happens to send MIDI events out at the same time, Sonar will crash.

This bug is many years old and has been reproduced and confirmed by Cakewalk. However they don't think getting basic MIDI Routing 101 right or Sonar crashing to be serious enough to fix.

Just telling you this so that if you run into this, you know who to file a bug report with.

This is why I finally dumped Sonar in the garbage where it belongs and switched to Studio One.

You can work around it by using a different midi channel for your keyboard or other midi devices. I have noticed the glitch as well, and by no means is X1 a great product, but there are ways around it for the folks that don't have the ability to use another DAW. Are you using Studio One 2? How is it working for you?
