How to create Tribal-like Tom Grooves in the style of Tool

Post by digitalnoiser_01 »

Hi guys, do you know how to let Jamstix create Tribal-like tom Grooves?
Something similar to Danny Carey from Tool to give an example.
The "Add Tom Groove" Function is amazing but sometimes it's too busy, playing continously 16th and 32nd notes, do you think that I have to use the function "Snare on Toms" or "Hi Hat on Toms"?

The best luck I've had was with the groove set to Half-Time, and Snare/Hats On Tom active. You might also try playing with odd time signatures, or use Custom Snare to add a bit more of the rhythm you're looking for.

or buy the Metal Pak which includes a drummer named Danny  ..

you can get some pretty serious tom work going on by enabling repetition fill (RT) too and messing with the fill controls.
Have a 1 bar part that repeats a few times and you'll get a fill at the end of every bar which can sound like a long tom groove.

Another strategy is to loop four bars of rock and then keep pressing the two dice in the brain until something good comes up. Even Charlie can be persuaded to do toms - although I agree with previous post that Danny is probably the best drummer for this sort of thing - I got some very nice 8th note toms with him. When happy save the player preset.

Very enlightening just rolling those dice.....
