Crafting a "Ringo" set of sounds?

Hi - I'm in a cover band that does lots of Beatles, and I'm putting some original material written in the same styles on a CD for us to learn. I'd like to give the drummer some ideas in the same genre.

I'm wondering if anyone has made a poor man's "RingoPak", or Model Ringo" (analogous to the BonzoPak or Model Mark that is offered) . Initially I'm looking to do stuff sounding like "A Hard Day's Night" era (lots of symbols, short quick fills), but later on move to the heavily compressed sound Ringo Starr used later.

Anybody more experienced/smarter than me put together anything like this yet, maybe have a hint or two?

Hi Alexis,

I recently came across a company called East West that produces sample libraries.

One of their huge (13Gig) libraries is called FabFour and consists of recreations of classic beatles drum, bass, keyboard and guitar sounds reproduced by using vintage gear and one of the Beatles' original sound engineers - it's quite an impressive sounding collection.

Hi Dean - thanks for the link, that product is definitely drool-worthy!

I've tried, but I'm not sure I've figured out how I would use that to do a drum track for an original song. These are VSTi's I believe... does that mean that I would need to build the drum track up hit by hit?

Even if I could somehow map Jamstix to Fab Four Virtual Instruments to get the "right" sounds, as far as I can figure out, I would still be lacking the right groove as near as I can tell.

I guess this is something I'm not quite sure about Jamstix. When it jams, who is jamming with me? Can it be set up so it's 1964 Ringo, or 1966 Ringo, for example?

There is no 'Ringo' model at this time so I'd experiment with existing drummers (i.e. Charlie with reduced 'Simplified' slider).

You should be able to have Jamstix control one of the FabFours' drum sample setups, and I'd take Ralph's advice and select the "Charlie" drummer model in Jamstix for the time being and knock the simplification slider down a little.

Also, keep a close eye on the Jamstix 3 thread - Ralph's making a lot of cool changes that, as far as I understand, will allow users to begin to design their own drummers by allowing us to add or delete certain brain components from a drummer setup.
