Jamstix and EZDrummer - No Audio

Post by Elton_John »

Hello. I am using Jamstix 3 in Cakewalk by Bandlab (ver. 2022.12.xx) in Win 10 64 bit.

I launch Cakewalk (CWBBL). I host Jamstix3 (JS) on an audio track. I use the JS Wizard to choose 12-bar blues JS song. I load JS Kit Standard Classic into JS. I play the song and hear drumming. It works fine.

Now I load Toontrack's EZDrummer (EZD) as drum kit in JS. I use the dropdown list in JS Kit page to select one audio output. I play the song and hear no drums. I use the dropdown list in JS Kit page to select four audio outputs. Still have no drum audio output

How do I get JS to load an EZD kit and then hear the EZD kit?

Thanks.

You need to enable midi out in jamstix, and load EZD vsti and the associated kit (drum map) you are using in jamstix.
The 3rd party "kits" all work the same way. They send Midi to the vsti where the actual kit is loaded, and the actual outputs are setup. I use jamstix 4 this way all the time with Addictive drums in Studio one 6.
Sorry I'm on my phone and away from the DAW so can't be more specific. Check the manual for specific selections/menus etc.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply.

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing here. I have JS hosted on one track in CWBBL, and I am trying to load the EZD samples from the JS Kit Load page. I do not have EZD hosted on a track in CWBBL and my understanding is I do not need to do this.

Sadly the User Manual has no information beyond telling me that JS can play samples from EZD as if those were a JS kit, and that it is possible from the JS Kit Load page to use the EZD samples within JS. So I go to the JS Kit Load page, select Toontrack and within that submenu select EZDrummer as the kit to be loaded in JS. But no sound is then produced.

I am familiar with hosting JS on one track, hosting EZD on a separate track, and then routing the JS midi data to drive the EZD instrument. In such a case, yes the JS and EZD drum maps must be coordinated. Again, this is different from the problem I have described above.

"I am trying to load the EZD samples from the JS Kit Load page."

If I read your initial post correctly and after seeing this line, it sounds like you are simply loading a drum kit mapped for EZD and are under the impression that this also would load EZD samples?

The only way I know to do what you want it what you described and E_J noted which is to load EZD on the same track after JS or on another track.

Loading the EZD kit loads the MIDI mapping so that JS and EZD are on the same page in terms of MIDI notes and so on.

If I am off base here, can you explain exactly how you are trying to load EZD samples.

and that it is possible from the JS Kit Load page to use the EZD samples within JS.
Where exactly are you seeing this in the JS3 manual? I can only find references to using EZD samples while driving EZDrummer, which must also be loaded into your DAW.

It is not possible to directly load any 3rd party samples into Jamstix, only to use Jamstix' midi output to drive a 3rd party VSTi.

Just to go from the start then, as I use Ableton live 11 going into EZ Drummer 3.In options-General options make sure you have midi out enabled.Never downmix I have off also in there.Just to confirm sound I go the kit,At the top of Jamstix it will say Midi out template.I then go to the bottom.See it say MIDI OUTPUT ONLY just below the drums, and I'll check to see they are all transmitting on midi channel 1.I also use 2 inputs for ez drummer 3 in live .One for midi in from Jamstix 4 ,and one for audio from ez drummer 3 to record the drums

Hello. Thanks to all who responded. I am sorry it has taken me so long to follow-up.

One think I have done since my last post was download and install Jamstix4. Given that I won't be using JS3 any longer, much of this thread is now irrelevant.

I have so far only used JS4 briefly, but I can see that there have been changes in the way JS4 interfaces with other drum software - the JS3 Kit Load page had a option to load EZDrummer 2; that option is no longer present on the Kit Load page in JS4.

So I am now spending some "quality time" with JS4 and the JS4 User's Manual - and will work to understand how to use JS4 with EZD2.

If I have more questions, I will post them here. Thanks again.
