Returning to Jamstix

Post by moon »

Hello- I'm returning to Jamstix - after a couple of years as I could never get it to do what I wanted. I'm a bass-player, not a technician- so it's not Jamstix's fault. So- to all intents and purposes I'm a Jamstix newbie.

I've updated everything and my first problem is that Reaper cannot see Jamstix 4. Where should I point its VSTi scanner, please ?

I have a jamstix4.dll in Programfiles/SteinbergVST dated 04/06/2019 ( 3,112KB ) but Reaper fails to load it.

Hi Moon,
Did you rescan your VST cache after installing Jamstix?

Hello a_zimuth
Yes, cleared the cache and rescanned. Steinberg VST is in the scan, jamstix4.dll is in Steinberg Vst- but Reaper isn't listing it so it cannot be selected. Reaper sees and opens Jamstix3.

Sorry for the slow reply, had to shovel snow and get some sleep. Did you try to use the Repair function in the Manager app to see if it can resolve your issue? Is this under Windows 10 also?

Hello a_z
No, I wasn't aware of that- I'll try it now.

No- I used the repair in Manager- reinstalled Jamstix 4. Jamstix4.dll appears in Steinberg\VstPlugins- but doesn't appear in the Reaper VSTi list- although Jamstix3 does and functions.

Are you sure that you installed the correct version of Jamstix, 32 or 64 bit? It usually doesn't matter unless you install the 64 bit version in a 32 bit OS but I've seen it do some strange things to Reaper.

Hello a_z
Yes- 64bit.

Now- I've had a result of sorts. I deleted jamstix3.dll from the (x86) Steinberg Vst folder. ( It remained there even though I'd unistalled Jamstix3 ) Reaper could still not see the Jamstix4.dll in SteinbergVst . So- I copied the Jamstix4.dll from Steinberg\Vst to the Vst folder in Program Files, rescanned the VST in Reaper and Reaper can now access Jamstix4.

Why that would be- I know not. Amateur's luck. Anyway- my question now is- should I delete Jamstix4.dll from the Steinberg\Vst folder entirely ? I ask because Jamstix Manager has Reaper pointing to Steinberg\Vst by default.
