Jamstix 4 Free Edition

Post by andy_camb »

Hi Anybody checking out Jamstix 4 on an older computer, that doesn't have a full HD monitor?
I tried it, and the interface only partially displays. Some of the controls are outside the frame display.
I could get some parts that I could see to work but when I accidentally tried to load a drummer I didn't have, the cancel button didn't work and the drummer choice list remained frozen on screen.
Don't know if the monitor resolution of my computer would cause this issue but obviously if it does I will have to stick with Jamstix 3.
Anybody experienced this issue?

Update .
Thanks to info by GreyLion below, I remembered that because of my aging eyesight, I had set my windows fonts at 125%. I put them back to 100% and now I can see the whole interface. So this is where the problem is..

I will get on with investigating whether it will work on my ancient machine or not. I am right on the edge of minimum system requirements 4 gig of ram.

Update 2:
Yes definitely the problem is screen resolution scaling. Put everything back to 100% and everything seems to be working.
Can see the whole interface, can try out the EQ on the kits, build a song, change kit colours etc.
Loving the separate power per part section
Amusing myself by now attempting to run Jamstix 3 and Jamstix 4 edition at the same time playing the same song, with the same drummer and kit if I can, just to see how different they sound. I will let you know if my computer blows up.
But looking good apart from this rescaling resolution glitch..

Sounds like a scaling issue. Please email me c:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\logs\Jamstix Plugin Log.txt

Exact same cut-off and interface freeze issue for me, too.

I have a 4K UHD monitor, Win7x64. Running in Reaper 4.62.

I have Windows fonts scaled to 175% -- anything less is almost impossible to read. The fonts in the JS4 Window are scaled up also, and nicely readable -- which is what cuts them off. I don't know what your development framework is, and how hard it might be, but you may want to consider offering interface size options at 150% and 200%, if at all possible. This seems to be an emerging trend as 4K monitors go mainstream.

.. And -- sorry if the above is stuff you already know... :)

I'm about to crash out for the night, but if andy_camb's log doesn't sort out the issue for you, I'll be happy to mail mine in when I get back up.

Hi,

read that Jamstix3 did run on wine/linux.

But now it seems, I am too late for the party, since Jamstix4 is released and there seems to be no Jamstix3 demo download anywhere on the website.

However Jamstix4Manager crashes under wine in different ways, depending on wether the simulated windows version is >= win7.

Would be great, if there was a workaround.

Best,
Benny

I'll look into it when the initial JS4 release rush is calming down.

One good bit of news is that we [b:eab359648b]may[/b:eab359648b] be able to provide a native Linux version of Jamstix 4 next year. I can't promise it, but it is a possibility depending on how some tools we're using are updated in the next few months.

Any more info on possible native linux version of JS4? I'm currently running paid JS4 in Win7x64, but would love to use it on my linux machine!

It's on the wish list to be reconsidered toward the end of this year based on tool chain updates.
