OSX Issues

Post by Ashley_Smith »

Hi Ralph,

(from e-mail)

I managed to find the manuals, they get installed into ~/username/Library/Application Support/Jamstix 3/data/docs. Better if said folder was installed to a folder in Applications, or ~/username/Documents for easy find.

A few issues I note on first use…

OS X installer installs plug-in formats to incorrect directory paths. One would expect those to be installed to /Library/Audio/"respective plug-in format folder" and /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins for AXX, instead of ~/username/Audio/Plug-Ins for AU and VST and ~/username/Application Support/JamstixInstall for AAX

AU and VST do not work correctly in Blue Cat Audio's Patchwork (Standalone). Upon launch the plug-in automatically goes into play with the plug-in sync'd to host by default with the lock engaged. There's no way to stop this unless you unlock, and I presume one would press the spacebar to stop(?), so it looks like key commands are not passed to the plug-in when hosted in this app. There's no play button, only RTZ, FFW and Rewind; a feature request for future update if one is using plug-in in standalone. Also to that effect one cannot play and populate the Song parts (1, 2, 3 etc…) by creating a song, you have to double click one of the listed in the wizard.

I do not see option in the Options tab to set a data path. Does this mean we cannot move data to an external hard drive, redirect?

There seems a short lag when clicking the Options tab to when the information appears.

I had my first crash too, which looks like an issue with Patchwork, so let me know and i'll pass this onto Guilliaume (CEO) and Fred (technical support) to take a look…

Also, is there a pref to automatically set notes on bar one to be exactly on the bar for drag/drop to host? I’m often missing notes as they’re I guess played behind the bar (relaxed), and thus are missing from the exported MIDI clip. Further, sometimes the notes are shifted to bar 2 in error and duplicated with other notes played, causing that identifiable phased sound, two notes of same kit piece played at the same time.

And, I think there's an issue with the GUI not keeping position when you open it and drag it around the screen in Pro Tools 11.x. It may be a Retina display issue, but the GUI doesn't attach to the plug-in window, it moves inside and jumps about. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance for reply.

Any news Ralph? Thanks. The main issue is the pref for aligning hits of a groove to the downbeat exactly for drag/drop.

I do not see option in the Options tab to set a data path. Does this mean we cannot move data to an external hard drive, redirect?
If this becomes necessary, please move the folder '~/Library/Application Support/Jamstix3' to the desired location and then edit the file '~/Music/Jamstix3/sllink.txt' to reflect the new path.
The main issue is the pref for aligning hits of a groove to the downbeat exactly for drag/drop.
In the 'Feel' section of the brain, if you set the pocket to zero (middle position) and 'Timing Vary' to zero (all the way left), all hits should align on beat but you will loose the human timing feel.

Thanks!

I don't wish to lose the human feel, just move the "first note(s)" of a/the groove to bar 1. Currently, when you drag/drop to host, the first notes are cut because behind the bar (I presume) or they are shifted to bar 2, causing doubled notes that phase. [u:ff9cf0f528]This is a bug[/u:ff9cf0f528]! I don't know what's happening to cause this? Help appreciated from yourself or any other user with more experience of the soft please...

Any info re the crash and the GUI not connected when moving window around... PT 11 and 12, OS X?

Are you doing drag/drop of bars, parts or the whole song? Are you doing it for hand-editing the MIDI?

We're trying to improve the window logic but the core issue is that the GUI server runs in a separate process from the plugin and OSX does not allow attaching a window from one process to another (like Windows). As a result, we must overlay/move the GUI with the plugin window.
