midi on instrument track in Studio One?

Post by sean_h »

Can someone tell me whether this should work? I can record audio tracks fine from Jamstix, and I can record note information on instrument tracks from other VST's, but I cannot seem to get JS to send the midi notes to S1 as an instrument track.

The enable midi option is selected, and I can save a midi file from JS and import it on a new instrument track. So I'm not completely blocked, but its inconvenient.

Been beating my head on this for a couple of days now, so confirmation that I'm not wasting my time would be appreciated.

Thanks
Sean.

Setup: Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10. Studio One 2.6.5, Jamstix 3.6.1

Try enabling MIDI ONLY in the Jamstix mixer, but it's not imperative, at least in my case. I also use S1 and it workes for me. Also, set another instrument track, define Jamstix as input, put it in record mode and start recording.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I tried that, but still no luck. Good to know its working for someone though; thanks. I'll keep trying.
BTW do you use IAC? I switched it on to get midi tracks working from Notion, and I'm wondering if that has maybe has something to do with it.
Cheers,
Sean.

Sorry to hear that. BTW, I am running S1 on Windows, not Mac. I don't use IAC and Notion, neither. Try disabling it. Maybe it's some Jamstix - Mac OSX related issue. I am sure Ralph can give you a hand with this.

Cheers,

Does Studio One (OSX) support MIDI output from VST plugins?
If not, you can use IAC as shown in stpete111 video here:

Yes it does. Logic is the only thing I've used that needs IAC. I usually just put JS on an instrument track in SO and its good to go. Let me know if you continue to have problems and I'll see what I can do to help you out.

Well something seems wrong here then, I don't see JAMSTIX showing up in IAC like it does in the video. The audio works fine.

You have to create the JAMSTIX port in IAC manually. If you do decide to create it to try it out, make sure that when you create it, you label it in all uppercase like I did above. Recently I created on labeled 'Jamstix' and it wouldn't work in Logic because of Jamstix was expecting the IAC port to be all uppercase it seems.

You shouldn't need IAC at all if you are doing this in Studio One however.

OK. I don't know what happened exactly, but I fiddled around for an hr this morning and it seems to work now.

I created a JAMSTIX IAC channel as you suggested, and now even though I don't use it explicitly in the project routing, I can now see the midi coming in on the midi monitor on JAMSTIX IAC bus and routing the Jamstix instrument into Impact now works ':D'

For a while it was only working with the midi output only setting in JS, but I restarted S1, created a fresh song, added two tracks one for JS and one for impact and now everything seems hooked up properly. So fingers crossed it stays fixed.

Thanks a bunch for your help.
