Jamcussion install problem in Sonar Studio 7

Post by T-Break »

Hi Ralph....... and all Jammers,

Loaded 2.5 update successfully (apparently, as JS2 window now shows v2.5) and then loaded Jamcussion (without re-booting 1st). Host is Sonar Studio 7.

When I 1st clicked on the Jamcussion button in the main JS2 window, I got the message regarding the serial number entry straight away. I entered it.

Problem experienced when trying to install according to your manual is following message: "Cannot create file C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\jamstix2\data\sounds\Thumbs.db"

I click on the 'Jamcussion' icon in main JS2 window and the Groove\Accent\Fill box changes although Groove and Accent are empty.
I open the 'Kit' window to install the Jamcussion instruments and 1st thing I notice is an empty grey rectangle overlaying the Drum Kit picture. Whilst no images of Percussion instruments are showing as they should according to your manual, if I mouse-over the grey area, the text bar at the bottom of the main window does report Hand Drums 1 - 4 and percussion instruments 1- 8. No demo sounds.

As I mention above - clicking on the 'Install' button leads me to that error message and clicking the 'Load' button only confirms that Jamcussion kit hasn't loaded as it is not listed amongst my JS 1.8 and JS2 drum Kits.
Pressing the 'Quickstart' option also confirms this as no Jamcussion songs are listed.

I am pretty certain that I have unzipped Jamcussion.rxp2 to the correct place as it is sitting in the same folder as all my other Kit files. My one question here is - are there supposed to be any other files in the ZIP folder other than " Jamcussion.rxp2" which is 61.5Mb in size??

Another question is why the above error message is pointing to where it's pointing to?? I do have a "Sounds" folder in that path but my Kit lives in : C:\Program Files.....................................\jamstix2\data\kit and that's where the Jamcussion.rxp2 file has been unzipped to.

Incidentally, I have tried shutting down and re-booting after installing both, in case it was a requirement for Windows Registry.

Your much needed help is required. I'm hoping someone will quickly spot an obvious and simple error on my part. Those of you already enjoying Jamcussion - I can sense your delight. Hope to be joining you shortly.

Cheers

Using XP Home, Ralph, with the latest update.

Shall I try removing and re-installing or wait for a come-back from you??

P.S. You're damn quick on the response.

Please try this:

- delete the file C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\jamstix2\data\sounds\Thumbs.db if it exists
- check the permissions on C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\jamstix2 and make sure write access is enabled
- rerun the 2.5 updater
- try loading Jamcussion.rxp2 again

If this still fails, please re-download the Jamcussion file and try installing it again.

Just dowloaded with Sonar 7. Dowloaded an rxp2 file that I have no way of accessing. What program do I use to make this run?

Load up Jamstix in Sonar, click the "Kit" button up top (and you should see the drumkit) and then click the "Install Pack" icon...search for the Jamcussion.rxp2 file, select it and click "Open"...Jamcussion will install.

Deleting the Thumbs.db file will let you run the Jamcussion RXP2. However, the file shouldn't be in the installer anyway. We're going to update the Jamcussion download within the hour so you may just want to wait until 12PM EST and then re-download the Jamcussion file.

Ralph.................. Happy days.

Your updated Jamcussion.rxp2 file which you asked me to wait for and download has done the trick.

I now have the visuals; I see the kit my list of kits and I see the Styles and drummers. I've run it through an existing project of mine and it sounds terrific straight out of the box!!!

A BIG thanks for that - but being the kind of guy that needs to know, can you explain in one sentence what the problem was. Not necessary if you don't have time.

Also, from my e-mail to your tech address - that question about an existing post on the forum re: how a smooth default install folder tree of JS 1.8 and JS 2 should look like (i.e what folders, sub-folders and files are created by default) just to know where everything should live to ensure future clean updates?

Gone midnight - so going for shut eye a happy Jammer.

Cheers

The problem was the unnecessary thumb.db file in the Jamcussion installer. Concerning the folder/subfolder/files tree, we don't have this at this time but I wouldn't worry about it. If you have any issues, we'll help.
