Jamstix & REAPER
I installed my Bonzo paks and xl paks in js3 inside Reaper. I had also been getting some kind of memory error when I tried to load the kits in js3, it would tell me the dll could not be found.....
anyway, I got this after I clicked OK on the dll cant be found message, then about 30 seconds later, while browsing the kits from js2, Reaper just disappeared from the screen......no message, no error, nothing, just suddenly disappeared.
Sorry I cant remember which kits will or will not load in the js3 beta. I just installed Windows 7 about a month or two ago, and I'm trying to get back where I was. I am also migrating everything from Sonar 7 PE over to the current version of Reaper. I want to abandon Sonar. Not sure if any of this would contribute to the error I had while trying to install and load js paks.....

And now my C:\Program Files\Jamstix2 folder is completely empty. Just a few minutes before this error, this folder had all the original Jamstix 2 content, including the kits.
Am I going nuts here? How did I do that?

That is the problem. No clue how that could happen. The Pak installer does not delete files.soundchaser_59 wrote:And now my C:\Program Files\Jamstix2 folder is completely empty. Just a few minutes before this error, this folder had all the original Jamstix 2 content, including the kits.
Please reinstall Jamstix 2 and Paks and the problem should go away.

a) Check 'Downmix' in the mixer so you'll hear all sounds even if the REAPER output routing is not set up.
b) Create your own grooves in the bar editor by setting style and drummer to 'Silent' in a part and then editing a bar while the preview function is on so it is looping (round arrow on bar editor). Place notes as desired until the groove is what you want. Now save the groove via the bar editor menu.
c) repeat B for any other grooves you want in the song.
d) now create parts for the song as needed (verse, chorus etc.) and use the 'Import' style on them. Select the correct saved groove from B for each part.
Jamstix is now set to use your grooves for each part. You can load drummer models to add accents and idiosyncrasies and you can also use 'Add' in the brain menu to load additional style features on top of your groove.
Many thanks for the advice. I've experimented with it and it seems like a good way forward for me.
I still get odd "idiosyncrasies" where using stuff like redirection (e.g. hi-hats into rides) only seems to apply to some repeats and not others.
Anyway JS3 seems to be holding up OK and early experiments seem to indicate that the loss of kits or song data doesn't appear to be a problem.
I'm also finding it a bit more intuitive than JS2 so that's a really good sign.
I'll test it out for another day or two and probably put a pre-order in.
Thanks again - especially replying to my question at what must be a very busy time for you.
Regards
Brendan

(Am I posting this question in the right forum? Since I'm including references to JS3 Beta here?)
Then reinstalled JS3 Beta 16, and installed paks Bonzo and XL and JS 2 Standard. I am able to load the Bonzo pak stuff ok, and I got it to respond to incoming midi notes, used the mixer, etc..... Cant find any way to load the standard JS2 kits.
Am I supposed to be able to load the other kits in JS3 Beta? Like the Addictive or the BFD, etc? I can give you more screen shots if needed, but when I'm in JS3 and I try to load one of the other kits that work in JS2, it tells me it cant find the dll. Then I browse, and the dll it is looking for does not match the dll's I already have installed.
Am I missing something here? Being stupid? Or am I trying to do something that the JS3 Beta is not yet ready to do?
I uninstalled everything, both JS2 and JS3, then started over. I reinstalled JS2 and installed all of my extra paks (Bonzo, XL, and the JS2 standard pak thing), and made sure JS2 was working as intended. It works fine.Ralph [RZ] wrote:That is the problem. What exactly do you do and what happens?soundchaser_59 wrote:Cant find any way to load the standard JS2 kits.

Well, I found that my JS3 (Beta16) will load the standard stuff, like the jazz, the rock kits, funk kits, even the ezdrummer dll. The Superior Drummer.dll load gave me an error about requiring 16 outputs, readjust JS and restart. After I changed it to 16 and restarted then the Superior kit loaded as well. TD20 and Metal Pak load ok, my Bonzo paks load fine.
The only stuff I cannot load is the third party "name brand" stuff like Addictive, BFD, Battery, Steven Slate wants me to locate the kontakt 3 dll which really scares me cuz of really bad experiences with kontakt aktivations. I have never purchased any of those products, so maybe it is normal that they will not load.
I'm thinking I just dont know what I'm doing when it comes to loading kits. I aint no JS guru, I just love the sound and I love my Bonzo Paks. So does this look like normal behaviour for the JS Beta loading kits? If not then I have a couple of new screen shots of what happens when I try to load BFD or Addictive.

Screen shots, just out of curiosity..... (hope this is the right forum for this...)
